This book tells the story of Two brown field mice, a father Longtail and a daughter Littletail. When Littletail challenges Longtail to a race, he wins. Littletail adores hide-and-seek, but Longtail always finds her. At least when they play follow the leader, her father gets stuck because he is too big to follow her through the roots of an old tree. Longtail tells his daughter that he won't be faster, cleverer, and bigger than her forever, and that she will grow to be faster, cleverer and bigger as well. At the end of the day Longtail tells his daughter that one thing will always be the same, no matter what: "“I love you always and forever".
